How to sell Discord shares

Discord is a decade-old company whose last priced round was in 2021, whose IPO was reported filed confidentially in January 2026, and whose listing has not yet appeared. For an employee or early holder that is the whole problem in one sentence: the reference price is stale, the exit is close but undated, and the window for a private sale may narrow as the listing nears. Here is how selling the stock actually works.

Start with what you hold

Discord’s holders span a decade: early employees with common from founding-era grants, former employees who exercised on the way out, current staff with options or RSUs, and investors with preferred from rounds up to 2021, directly or through a fund. Those distinctions decide everything. Shares you own can be sold where the company’s rules permit; unexercised options cannot move on their own, and a former employee’s exercise window may be the real deadline; and a fund or SPV interest moves under that vehicle’s agreement first. Pull your grant documents and stock certificate before talking to anyone, including us.

How Discord liquidity actually works

Discord has not published a void-transfer notice, and no tender program has been announced. Its stock carries the standard controls: transfers need company approval, and a right of first refusal typically lets the company or its investors step into a priced sale. Consent is the first diligence item. The recorded market shows a name that trades directly: 11 of the 12 Discord secondaries recorded on PrivateMarketView from November 2025 to June 2026 were direct transfers onto the ledger, nearly all common, with one SPV interest. That usually means a company processing approvals rather than resisting them — useful, but not a promise about your file, and not one that holds as a listing approaches.

What the stock is worth

The last priced primary round valued Discord at about $15 billion in 2021, at the top of that cycle. It is no longer the reference: secondary references since have sat well below it, and the company has changed a great deal — including a new CEO, Humam Sakhnini, in 2025. The live numbers — the current mark, the round history, the recorded trade aggregates and the investor book — are maintained on the Discord data page, published from PrivateMarketView, the data platform behind this site. None of those references is your price. Buyers anchor on the recent tape and on what they expect an IPO to price at, and the number for your block comes from them, not from a chart.

The IPO question

A confidential IPO filing was reported in January 2026, with a debut discussed for as early as March. That date passed, and as of late October 2026 there is no public registration statement, price range, ticker or date. A seller weighing the wait should count the whole clock: the listing, then a lockup of typically about six months, then the stock’s first public trading — at a price that may land above or below today’s secondary level. Against that sits a private sale now, with the company’s approval, while approvals are still being given. Selling part and keeping the rest is common. Which is right turns on your concentration, cash needs and taxes; a desk should inform that decision and never make it.

How a sale runs through this desk

Tell the desk what you hold — class, rough size, how you acquired it, exercised or not — and your timing. We confirm what your position can do under the company’s rules first, including the ROFR terms and anything the company has said about transfers ahead of a listing. The position then goes to buyers without your name on it, and indications on clean files usually come back within a business day. You are not named until you agree to proceed, there is no fee to ask, and the fee on a brokered block is quoted on your file in writing — how the fee works. The close runs through a FINRA-registered broker-dealer; our CRDs are on the about page.

Common questions

Can I sell my Discord shares?
Usually, yes — within the company’s process. Discord has not published a void-transfer warning of the kind OpenAI and Anthropic have, but its stock carries the standard private-company controls: a transfer needs company approval and typically faces a right of first refusal. The first step on any file is confirming what your specific holding — common from an early grant, exercised options, settled RSUs, preferred from a round — can do under your documents.
Discord reportedly filed for an IPO. Can I still sell privately?
Often, yes, but the filing changes the clock. A confidential IPO filing was reported in January 2026, with a debut talked about for as early as March; that passed, and as of late October 2026 there is no public registration statement, price range or date. Companies preparing a listing commonly tighten or pause secondary transfers as it approaches, so a private sale available today is not guaranteed later. Ask what the company is approving now.
Does Discord run tender offers?
No company program has been announced publicly. Liquidity in the name has come through consented secondaries, and on PrivateMarketView those have been almost all direct: 11 of the 12 Discord secondaries recorded over the past year were direct transfers onto the ledger, nearly all common stock, with a single SPV interest. If a tender is announced, understand it before doing anything else.
Can I sell unexercised Discord options?
Not on their own. Options are personal and do not transfer; the usual solutions are exercising at close with the proceeds or a structure the company’s documents permit. Former employees should check their post-termination exercise window first, and anyone whose strike sits close to today’s secondary prices should run the numbers with a tax adviser before a buyer is engaged.
What is Discord stock worth right now?
Not the 2021 round. The last priced primary valued Discord at about $15 billion in 2021, and secondary references since have sat well below it. The current mark, the round history and the recorded trade aggregates are on the Discord data page, published from PrivateMarketView, the data platform behind this site. None of those is your price; an indication for your block comes from taking it to buyers.
Should I wait for the Discord IPO instead of selling?
That is a real option with real costs. A listing has been reported in preparation but nothing is public, the first target date has already passed, and after an IPO employee and early-holder shares are typically locked up for about six months. An IPO price may also land above or below today’s secondary level. The middle path many holders take: sell part now and keep the rest for the listing. The split depends on your concentration and taxes.
