Global Environment Facility

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a corporation based in Washington, DC, the United States. Established in 1992 in Rio, it helps tackle environmental problems. It has provided support to nearly 24,000 civil society and community initiatives in 128 countries. Its investments are governed by its Board of Directors. They are international organizations that support projects, submitted by the governments of developing countries, that generate global environmental benefits. Only countries are members of the Global Environment Facility.
