CERN is a government agency based in Geneva, Switzerland. Established in 1954, the firm's main area of research is particle physics - the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and the forces acting between them. Because of this, the laboratory operated by the firm is often referred to as the European Laboratory for Particle Physics. The agency is run by 22 Member States, each of which has two official delegates to the CERN Council.
