Anthropic's $16.8 Billion Quarter and the IPO Price per Share

At Wednesday's investor meeting Anthropic put third-quarter revenue at $16.8 billion, up 45% on the quarter, with an adjusted profit for the second quarter running. Growth has slowed from 140% a quarter, and the valuation talk has widened from $2 trillion to under $1.5 trillion. On PMView's share count that range is $915 to $1,220 a share against a $589 round price and a six-print tape that averaged $666 this summer. Here is the per-share math at each number.

Oct 15, 2026 · about Anthropic

Key points

  • Anthropic told a closed-door investor meeting in San Francisco on October 14 that third-quarter revenue was $16.8 billion, up from $11.6 billion in the second quarter and $4.8 billion in the first. Nine-month revenue is about $33 billion against $4.6 billion for all of 2025. The figures are reported by Bloomberg, the FT and the Wall Street Journal from people in the room; nothing has been filed.
  • The company said it was profitable on an adjusted basis for a second straight quarter: an 85% adjusted gross margin, an adjusted operating margin above 11%, positive free cash flow. The adjustments exclude stock compensation and model-training cost, and no income statement has been published.
  • Growth is the story the room took away. Quarter-on-quarter growth went from about 140% in Q2 to 45% in Q3, the company gave no September run rate and no full-year outlook, and SemiAnalysis told the FT investors have been cutting their projections for three months. The Journal says investors still expect $110 billion annualised by year-end; the quarter annualises at $67 billion.
  • The valuation range has widened. The draft prospectus targets $2 trillion; Bloomberg reports some investors put the fair number at $1.8 to $2 trillion; The Decoder reports others now expect the banks to guide under $1.5 trillion. Bloomberg's analysts' line was that the results help the IPO and do nothing for the broader AI trade.
  • On PMView's share count those numbers are $915 to $1,220 a share. The Series H priced at $589.01 in May. PMView's mark is $589, Fidelity and Alger carry the stock at $589, Ark at $557, and the six prints PMView recorded from April 30 to July 10 averaged $666 in a range from $589 to $925. The timetable is unchanged: marketing the week of November 9, listing before Thanksgiving.

Why it matters

Two weeks ago the only public number was $2 trillion. Now there are three, and the gap between the lowest and the highest is $300 a share, more than half of what the last round paid. A holder who was told in September to wait for $1,220 is now being asked whether $915 is still worth waiting for, and a buyer who passed on $925 in July has a better case than they did. The quarter itself was enormous. What moved was the slope, and in a listing priced on forward revenue the slope is the price.

The quarter

Q1 2026 Q2 2026 Q3 2026
Revenue $4.8B $11.6B $16.8B
Growth on prior quarter — ~140% ~45%
Annualised $19B $46B $67B
Adjusted profit no yes yes

Three things from the reporting matter for the price and none of them is the headline figure. First, the company did not give the September exit rate, which is the number an IPO is actually priced on, and the omission is what the sceptics in the room noticed. Second, the adjusted profit is a company definition: stock compensation and training cost are out, and the 2025 net loss of $42 billion, $34 billion of it a non-cash charge on convertible instruments, is the last audited number anyone has seen. Third, a share of the revenue is booked gross through AWS and Google Cloud, which Quartz notes makes the figure larger than an OpenAI-style net number would be; the compute commitments behind it, more than $500 billion over the decade, were in the draft S-1 and are unchanged.

Bloomberg's Q2 figure was $11.5 billion; the FT's is $11.6 billion. The difference does not change anything above. The Reuters report on Thursday that the FTC has subpoenaed both Anthropic and OpenAI over consumer harms is a risk-factor paragraph, not a pricing input, unless it delays the filing.

The per-share math at each number

PMView's implied share count comes from the Series H: $965 billion at $589.01 is about 1.64 billion shares. Every valuation in circulation maps onto it.

Valuation Per share vs Series H ($589) vs summer tape ($666) Multiple of Q3 annualised
$965B (Series H, May) $589 — -12% 14x
$1.5T (the low case) ~$915 +55% +37% 22x
$1.8T ~$1,100 +87% +65% 27x
$2T (the prospectus) ~$1,220 +107% +83% 30x

The last column is why the range widened. At $2 trillion the listing is 30 times a quarter that just grew 45%; at $1.5 trillion it is 22 times. If the Journal's $110 billion year-end run rate is right, $2 trillion is 18 times forward and the case holds; if SemiAnalysis's $74 billion is closer, it is 27 times and the low case is the one the banks will defend. The IPO itself adds shares, so the per-share figures above are slightly high for any given valuation; the direction is the point.

Where the stock has actually priced

PMView holds 234 Anthropic prints, more than any name on the platform except SpaceX, and the tape through the spring is clear.

Period Prints Average Range Context
Jan 2026 10 $273 $200 to $298 before the Series G
Feb 2026 13 $276 $239 to $298 Series G priced at $259 on Feb 12
Mar 2026 6 $334 $270 to $404
Apr 30 to Jul 10 6 $666 $589 to $925 Series H priced at $589 on May 28

The tape ran 5 to 30% above the Series G through the first quarter, then the Series H more than doubled the round price and the market went quiet: six prints in ten weeks and nothing since July 10. The last of them, a common-stock block through an SPV, is the $925 top of the range, and it is the only trade on record above $700. The institutional marks have not moved: Fidelity's funds carry their Series F, G and H-1 preferred at $589.01 and Capital Group's Growth Fund of America its F-1 at the same price, Alger at $589, Ark's venture fund cut its position to $556.98 on July 31, and Destiny Tech100 marks its Series B exposure at $610.41. PMView's mark is $589, a $967 billion valuation.

So the market's own range is $557 to $925, and the IPO range is $915 to $1,220. They touch at one print.

Who is on the cap table

PMView holds 212 investors on Anthropic and nine institutional filers. Alphabet has been in five rounds since the 2023 Series C and Amazon two since November 2024; Salesforce Ventures and Bessemer four each, Altimeter and Baillie Gifford three each since the Series F, Fidelity, D1, Accel and ICONIQ two each, Jane Street one. The 2021 Series A was Jaan Tallinn, Eric Schmidt and Dustin Moskovitz; the 2022 Series B was FTX and Alameda, whose stake was sold in the 2024 secondary. The full list, with each firm's rounds, is on the Anthropic investor page, and the prospectus piece from October 9 has the lockup and timetable detail as it was then reported: What a $2 Trillion Listing Means for Secondary Holders. The June note on the confidential filing is Anthropic Files Confidential S-1.

What a holder should do with this

If you own Anthropic. The quarter did not reduce what you own; it reduced the certainty of the top number. At the low case you still list 55% above the round and 37% above the summer tape. The decision is the same as it was two weeks ago, whether to sell into a bid now or hold through the lockup, but the bid you are comparing against should now be measured against $915, not $1,220. A buyer who offers the Series H price today is offering a 36% discount to the low case.

If you are a buyer. The slope is the whole argument. A business adding $5 billion of quarterly revenue in a quarter is not slowing in any sense that matters to a holder; it is slowing in the sense that matters to a 30-times multiple. The entry that has worked in every large pre-IPO name on the platform is the last round price plus a modest premium, bought before the roadshow sets the range. That window is four weeks.
